Real Estate Residency: What Cuba’s New “Residente de Inmobiliaria” Category Means
Status: PUBLISHED — IMPLEMENTATION DEVELOPING
- What changed
- Cuba’s new foreigners framework explicitly recognizes a migration category referred to as “residente de inmobiliaria”. This creates a clearer legal connection between certain authorized real-estate arrangements and residency for foreigners.
- Who it affects
- International buyers · Investors · Long-term residents
- What it means in practice
- For international buyers, investors and long-term residents, property structure and immigration status may increasingly need to be evaluated together rather than as completely separate matters. Important: this category does not remove the existing legal restrictions governing foreign ownership of Cuban residential property and does not mean that foreigners can freely purchase ordinary Cuban residential property. It applies within legally authorized real-estate structures and qualifying ownership or rental situations.
- CPS note
- Before acquiring, leasing or investing in Cuban property, the legal status of the property and the eligibility of the proposed ownership or rental structure should be verified independently.
