New commercial framework supports development of retail and restaurant networks
Status: IN FORCE — IMPLEMENTATION DEVELOPING
- What changed
- Cuba's new commercial framework provides greater scope for the organization and development of retail, restaurant and gastronomic networks involving different economic actors. The framework also creates additional possibilities for cooperation between state enterprises, private businesses and approved foreign-investment structures.
- Who it affects
- Restaurant operators · International franchises · Retail · Foreign investors · Commercial property · Distribution companies
- What it means in practice
- This may create new opportunities for restaurant chains, international franchises, retail networks, food distribution, commercial property, hospitality, international brands and public-private operating structures.
- CPS note
- Projects involving existing commercial locations, international brands, private operators and Cuban state entities may now deserve renewed feasibility analysis under the new regulatory framework. State-owned properties or businesses are not automatically available for sale, lease, concession or private operation. Every project requires an individual agreement and legal assessment.
